How can we dwell with function? Let’s discover that concept this week in our on-line retreat. In three elements, we’ll contemplate the calls for and the advantages of residing with function. Our information is Fr. Kevin O’Brien, SJ, writer of Seeing with the Heart: A Guide to Navigating Life’s Adventures. This retreat attracts from the concepts in that e book’s first chapter.

Opening Reflection

The opening meditation of the Non secular Workouts, generally titled “First Precept and Basis,” begins with these phrases: “Man is created to reward, reverence, and serve God our Lord, and by this implies to save lots of his soul.” (SE 23)

I spotlight these opening phrases: we’re created to reward, love, and serve God. By implication, this additionally means to like and serve others, as a result of love of God and love of neighbor are inseparable, each a part of the good commandment articulated by Jesus (Matthew 22:34–40). That is Ignatius’s mission assertion for the human individual: we’re created to know and love God and others. Every little thing we do or don’t do must be weighed in opposition to that finish.
